      <image:caption>As a Mexican Citizen child that was raised in the United States, I understand the struggles that come with growing up as that child. Scared, lonely, and unable to trust others or yourself. I grew up seeing the struggles my parents went through raising my US Citizen siblings and me. The difficulties parents often face because of the experience of bicultural stress only create a barrier between parent and child. There are many differences between the perspectives each has because of the experiences each receives. The beliefs and values are often conflicting between both. The challenge parents often face between raising children according to their culture and the children’s challenge of having the ability to assimilate to the new culture with ease. Communication is often sacrificed because neither can understand the challenges both are experiencing. Empathy and understanding are needed to have an opportunity to see past your own experience, whether as a parent or as a bicultural child/adult.</image:caption>
